Philippians 4: 17
I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.
You can do anything, all things, in Christ Jesus. That is to say, you are the one who does “the thing” but not in yourself. We are talking about partnership with Jesus.
This partnership is the key to walking in Christ. We are not performers, so this discussion isn’t actually about our “doing” something. We are believers. We believe unto righteousness. We also believe unto success. Our success is a function of belief, but it is also a function of cooperating with the Spirit of Christ. Success isn’t gained by work alone, nor is it attained by prayer alone. Prayer is the beginning point; communion with the Spirit of God is the start of a successful project. Once begun, we must then follow the guidance of Jesus and do the work he appoints to us. This communion must be revisited daily. When God gives us a project or a task, He does not intend that we should do it alone. He doesn’t assign and then vacate. His idea is that in all things, we work together. Sometimes he directs us to pray and that is all that is needed at the moment. Other times He may have you make a phone call or send an email. It really is quite a bit like working with a person who helps direct your workflow. Of course, when you labor with the Holy Spirit at the helm, you are more efficient, getting more done in less time and with less fatigue.
This does not apply only to the workplace. This partnership with Christ is in every single thing you do. For example, we are having some work done at our house. Of course, there are little hiccups along the way, planning and timing issues, dealing with deliveries and late deliveries, coordinating the various workers. Literally, there are lots of little issues that need to be managed. It has been an exercise in walking with Christ. One of the most recent issues was a delivery that was delayed. Its new delivery date was to be after the date scheduled for installation. Okay, that is a problem. After I prayed about it, all of a sudden the items were delivered two days sooner.
There are so many ways we can spend our time each day. Lately there have been many things competing for my time. Therefore, I am having to check in with the Holy Spirit continuously. “What should I do next?” It might sound taxing to check in so constantly but to tell you the truth, it has kept my stress level down, and, it only takes a moment to receive direction. I will admit, some of this has come with practice. There was a time when I could not receive God’s leading so easily. The good news is, since I have learned to do it, you can too.
The thing I wish for you to receive today is that in all things you are a victor and overcomer in Christ Jesus. Simply, we are learning how to be in him moment by moment. What is the best use of this minute? Should you go start a load of clothes, make that phone call, or spend a quiet minute breathing? All things become possible when we are living our lives IN him. People talk about living your best life. Well, this is it. Us in him, him in us; breathing together, walking together even rejoicing together.
