Prayer is effective. It works, but does it seem, sometimes, that it doesn’t? Here is a testimony about how to help your body receive prayers for healing, or anything really.
Some months ago, a worrisome spot was found on my mom’s lung. The doctor prescribed a test which would need to be done under general anesthesia. Not surprisingly, Mom experienced fear. Not only were there the chance and expectation of cancer, but she was also concerned about not waking up from the anesthesia.
As we know, fear is toxic and dangerous. That very week, I had written about Job and how fear gripped him. The two-part series showed how fear was Job’s undoing and suggested ways for us to avoid the fear trap. I have included the link to this series below. Fear and faith cannot exist concurrently so if you are attempting to stand in faith for something, we must deal with the fear.
I discussed this with Mom. I then sent her the two-part series in a single document so that she could study it in whole. She later told me that once she read that document, she never had any more fear. Hallelujah and thank you Job.
Now we could get down to the business of prayer about her health. This is where I wanted to take you today. Prayer is very effective, but so are prayer blocks. You see, once Mom adopted a posture of faith rather than fear, it became easy to pray for her. I have prayed for many people over my time in ministry and on occasion have experienced a rather uncomfortable phenomenon. At times it has felt as though my prayer has bounced off of the person being prayed for, as though they were made of rubber.
My father had cancer. He wore his cancer like a badge of courage, like having cancer gave him attention he needed and sought. He owned the cancer. Do you know what I mean by that? It became “his” cancer. He was keen to say, “I have cancer.” Understand this, you can’t own and have something, hold it to your breast as yours and at the same time send it away from your body. You must choose.
Mom underwent the procedure that required her to be anesthetized. I asked her that morning if she was going to awaken and she said, “Yes.” She did awaken and was very much herself. She did receive a diagnosis that there was cancer, but it never caused any fear in her. She was in faith, and faith can have its authoritative say in your body. Happily, I can report that the cancer report was reversed. She is clear and has been released by the oncologist. Again, Hallelujah and thank you Father God!
It wasn’t only God who was responsible for the good report though. He gave us a path, showed us a way, and provided all the tools, but Mom had to walk the path. Of course, the Ivey Ministries Prayer Team prayed with faith, as they always do, but a big part of the equation was Mom having positioned herself to receive. She vanquished fear, not by a force of will but by application of faith (I show how in the Job document below). She received, and she trusted that our God and Father was on the case. She had confidence in the prayers as she knows many of the very dynamic and faithful people on the prayer team. She knew they would pray the earnest prayers of righteous believers, and she set herself to receive. The prayers were, and are, effectual.
I also prayed for my dad. I gave him videos of renowned preachers teaching on healing. I tried to encourage him on a path of healing, but it was to no avail. He embraced sickness where Mom embraced healing and faith. James encouraged us to be doers of the word (James 1: 22) and this is what it looks like. Be encouraged today.
