Did you ever wonder how Mary became the mother of our Lord? I mean, why did Yahweh choose her? I admit, I am amazed that this bit of scripture has eluded me all these years, but now I find the faith of Mary a great ministry to the body of Christ, literally and figuratively.
The story begins with the angel Gabriel visiting Zechariah, the husband of Elizabeth and a priest of the temple. Gabriel told Zechariah that his wife Elizabeth, though advanced in years, would conceive and bear a son. This was good news and a man of the cloth, so to speak, would surely greet this angelic news with faith and joy. Alas, the man of God stumbled and instead of enjoining the angel with faith, he opened his mouth, allowing doubt to ooze out. So, the angel muted him. Zechariah would not be allowed to speak until the miracle was compete. He was muted so that he would not ruin the blessing with his mouth and words of doubt. God protected the blessing by silencing him.
Meanwhile, six months passed and the same angel, Gabriel, visited a young woman named Mary. She was told she would conceive and how such a thing would be performed. She then responded, “I am the Lord’s servant, may your word to me be fulfilled” (Luke 1: 38). What an amazing and beautiful testimony.
Today’s scriptures are a wonderful Bible history, the kind of story we should be taught in Sunday School. They also are an amazing tribute to faith and belief that what God says, He is well able to perform. Two women, who could not become pregnant in fact did. They received God’s word with a simple faith. Be it done just as you have said. Verse 37 reads, “For no word from God will ever fail.” These two women believed those words and changed the world. Elizabeth gave birth to John the Baptist, and I think you know Mary’s son. Looking upon it now, it should be no surprise that Jesus was not only born of a miracle but also, he was born of faith. Mary and Elizabeth had to believe God for the miracles they received.
I share this with you today to give you hope. What is it that God has promised you? He is not a man that He should lie (Numbers 23: 19). If He said it, He will do it. Let Mary and Elizabeth inspire us all today that God is a keeper of promises and will do all He has promised. Do not be discouraged but encouraged. Do not condemn yourself if you have acted like Zechariah. That was yesterday. Today is a new day and you have a new faith born this morning. Nothing shall be impossible to you because you have an amazing partner who makes the impossible come true.
I hope you feel renewed today. May God’s blessing be with you all day!
