Praise Power
Psalm 150
Praise the LORD!
Praise God in His sanctuary;
Praise Him in His mighty expanse.
2 Praise Him for His mighty deeds;
Praise Him according to His excellent greatness.
3 Praise Him with trumpet sound;
Praise Him with harp and lyre.
4 Praise Him with tambourine and dancing;
Praise Him with stringed instruments and flute.
5 Praise Him with loud cymbals;
Praise Him with resounding cymbals.
6 Everything that has breath shall praise the LORD.
Praise the LORD!
Why do we praise the Lord? I am going to offer you a reason today and I hope it benefits you. This was impressed on me when I was reading Job.
I have known people who were very good at praising God. Then there was me. I was not free with praise, especially in public. It just didn’t come easily to me. None the less, over the years I have learned the power of praise, and it is that which I wish to share with you. Then we can learn about how to make it easier for those of you who are challenged.
In the devotional from February 9, 2026 titled Go Figure (Part two) I wrote about Job’s approach to a fear he had and suggested the way to deal with it was to overcome fear with faith. Fear, I suggested, is always overcome by faith. The takeaway from that devotional was that words of faith reposition us to a stance which aids us in overcoming fear and its effects. The most powerful method I know to turn myself from fear to faith is praise.
I like to sing. No matter how down or worried I become, singing to God always lifts me up. Without regard to how little I feel like singing, if I will begin, the Spirit will energize me and without fail, I will soon feel better and the problem will have shrunk.
I think many of us misunderstand praise and worship. Yahweh is not an egomaniac who needs people fawning at His feet. I am sure He is very secure in who He is. It is for our good that He encourages praise. Praise lifts us up. Now, if singing isn’t your thing, just speak. Even reading today’s passage aloud evokes good feelings and confidence. Praise of thanksgiving is always healthy. When a person begins thanking God, the eyes of their heart shift from the problem to the good things.
When you are facing a big problem in your life, lift your voice in praise. The Go Figure devotional offers a simple guide so perhaps have a look back at that. If you need help, we are here. Consider sharing any tips which work for you in the comment section below. Make today a good day through praise!
